My name is Ben and I am a graphic design student in Australia. I am doing this blog as an assignment for one of my classes as an experiment in writing html,
making tables, etc. Things I like are most types of music, especially stuff with abit of edge to it, hanging out with my friends and fellow graphos and heaps of different types of food. I hope you like my blog!
Hello everyone! Well guess what... this blog is due tomorrow morning so the assessment is almost over. I think I might keep it going maybe, at least for a little while. It's funny that I hated doing it so much at the start of the assignment but now It's become a bit of a daily ritual to sit down and put something up in here so I won't be posting every day but maybe every now and then cuz it's kind of grown on me.
Today it finally rained!!! I've been wanting it to rain for ages because there is dust everywhere! However, I was in town at the time it started so I got absolutely DRENCHED cuz I was walking up the street where there was no cover. I really do love it when it rains though. There's nothing like sitting in front of your bedroom window with a good cup of hot coffee and just watching it pour down. Speaking of coffee, they're building a Gloria Jean's here. Gloria Jean's make great coffee, heaps better than Starbucks. Did you know that the world consumes over 400 billion cups of coffee a year!
I was waiting at the bus stop and a man walked up to me and asked me for eight dollars. I couldn't really tell why he wanted it because his speech was kind of slurred and he was saying something about being locked out of his apartment. I didn't know what to think so I said I was a uni student with no money but I really did feel bad for him if he was genuine. You just can't trust anyone anymore and it ruins it for the people who genuinely need help.
There's a really awesome graphic design agency called Agent Mad. Their website is so cool so check out the link. Hopefully one day I can produce stuff that good. I'm really looking forward to getting out into the world and showing them what I can do.
Well, gotta go. The Simpsons is on soon and for once I can watch it cuz I've finished all my work. I think t.v and an early night sounds like a plan cuz tomorrow night I am PARTYING!!! One last chance to live it up before holidays!

Three posts from me today! You lucky people...
Check out this site. It's this lady called Leslie Hall who collects sweaters, but not just any sweaters, sparkly sweaters! View the collection here. It's so funny! Gotta love those gold leggins.
Well I think I am well and truly ready for a holiday! I am so tired at the moment and just need to catch up on some serious sleep time. I got an assignment handed in today which was a relief to get that off my back and then I just need to get this blog handed in on wednesday and that's the term over and done with!
The ball on friday night was good. I got to spend some quality time with my friend which doesn't happen alot now she's moved away but we were so tired by midnight that we had to go home! The next night, Saturday was worse, I was seriously buggered and was in bed by 9 o'clock. Sad but true.
During the holidays I plan on working to save up some money for uni next term and just chilling out at home. I might also have a bit of freelance graphic design work so I hope that works out. It would be good to get up to Sydney for afew days but I can't afford it.
I got an email from my cousin in Ireland the other day. She is from Sydney but before she began uni last year she wanted an adventure so she went fruit picking at a little town called Gundagai. Anyways, she absolutely hated the fruit picking but met an Irish Guy while she was there. They both moved back to Sydney but his visa expired so he had to go home so she started working and saved up enough money to get over there and she flew over last june to meet up with him so she's working in Ireland at the moment and getting to see the country aswell. I can't wait to travel!
Well that's all I've got for now. Cya tomorrow.
Something funny that found its way into my inbox today...
John O'Reilly hoisted his beer and said, "Here's to spending the rest of me life between the legs of me wife!" That won him the top prize for the best toast of the night. He went home and told his wife, Mary, "I won the prize for the best toast of the night." She said, "Aye, John, what was your toast?" John said, "Here's to spending the rest of me life sitting in church beside me wife". "Oh, that is very nice indeed, John," Mary said. The next day, Mary ran into one of John's toasting buddies on the street corner. The man chuckled leeringly and said, "John won the prize, the other night, with a toast about you, Mary." She said, "Aye, and I was a bit surprised myself! You know, he's only been there twice. Once he fell asleep, and the other time I had to pull him by the ears to make him come.

Big Week Ahead...
Well I got an assignment handed in this morning that I was generally happy with so that's a big relief. There are two due next week so I'm gonna be busy but I'll handle it.
This time next week I'll be on holidays which i a sort of scary thought as it seems like we've only been back at uni for not long at all. I'm gonna miss everyone heaps but we have lots of assignments due when we get back so that will keep me busy.
My sister is making her debut tonight at a debutante ball. The idea is that at the ball the girls are presented to a guest of honor with their partner and then do a couple of dances and this is their entrance into society. It's a rather old fashioned tradition but apparently it's fashionable again. Should be good as my friend who left afew weeks ago is coming up for it.
More Starbucks rantings, did you know that there is one Starbucks store to every 533 Americans. That is based on that there are 5,510 stores in America (of which 1,417 are in California) and that there are approximately 293,683,631 Americans. They sure do love their 'cawfee' over there! In Australia there's one store for every 445,931.7 Aussies based on that there are 20,066,933 Australians and there are a 'whopping' 45 stores here, of which half are in Sydney. Actually I found this nuts website that has the current population of Australia on it which updates every minute. View it here. It also has heaps of interesting stats. For example did you know that someone migrates to this country every four minutes?
Well that's enough from me today...

Ahh, my heater came on this morning. That can only mean one thing and that is winter is nearly here. Yay for foggy mornings, beanies and hot soup.
I've just been to class and my teacher liked what I had done with my blog so it's good to know that all those hours of mucking around with it have paid off. Today my blog hit the 100 hits mark. I've had people on here from countries I never imagined and my blog is also in a search engine!
I went out last night over to our uni bar where there were some local bands playing. There weren't many graphos there, actually, there weren't even many people there but it's good to go and support the local live music scene.
I opened a new packet of coffee this morning and now my room smells like a Starbucks store, not that I'm complaining. I'd live in a starbucks store if I had the chance. I think coffee's one of the best smells in the world, especially first thing in the morning.
Speaking of Starbucks, did you know that they are opening stores at a rate of 3.5 a day. There are 8,000 stores in the world at the moment and the plan is to almost triple that to create 25,000. Whoa, that's a hell of a lot of Starbucks. Read the article There's 292 in New York alone but that's not the biggest number of stores in one city, there's 303 in Illinois. So it is true that there is a Starbucks on every corner. I wonder how long it is until they build one here?
Well enough of my ranting about Starbucks. I have to go and do work.

So much to do, so little time!!!
So I was talking to my teacher thismorning and apparently the colour scheme on here makes him want to be sick so I'm going to change it all. Not that I don't agree with him!!! I think it's abit dodgy and I've been seeing some really cool sites lately with this whole minimalist thing going down so I'm going to try to adopt that for my blog so watch this space cuz there's changes coming soon. I should be doing more linking too so I'm going to make an effort to do that.
I learnt a cool new art term off the Simpson's of all places lastnight. It was 'po-mo' which is short for Post Modernism. It was described by Moe as 'being weird for the sake of weird' which I thought was kinda cool.
For all the graphos having problems with HTML there's an easy straight forward site here with heaps of tags. Whoever the person who made this is a lifesaver!
Well got to go do work. Hopefully next time I see you the dodgy colours will be gone.

Well this is only going to be a quick blog cuz I need to get heaps of work done before Sex and the City. I havn't really been up to alot. Just heaps of work and trying to get my life sorted. I had to go grocery shopping today unfortunately but that's not very interesting.
I've been trying to line up some work experience and a hint to all my fellow graphos out there, NEVER wait for a company get back to you cuz they don't even if they say they will. They've got a million better things to do and uni students flooding them wanting work experience so you just have to keep on their back until they finally say yes!
Hate the logies like everyone else? Vote for the annual 2004 fugly awards!
I heard a funny old saying today. I was to "run like a scalded cat" My dad used it over lunch. I wasn't completely sure what it meant so I asked him. "Why, haven't you ever seen someone pour hot water on a cat?" He said. "God, no!" I replied. "Are they the kind of things people did to amuse themselves back before t.v?" I hope not. I typed the phrase into google and there are 47 sites that use that quote. We have a cat that hangs around home and the thought has never crossed my mind to pour hot water on him to make him run, though now I'm sort of tempted to test out the similie, nah, just kidding, though I do wonder about the origins of some of those funny old sayings. My Dad and my Nan come out with some classics at times. I'll keep you posted one any other ones that pop out.
I read an article in my mum's women's weekly this month about a photographer named Helmut Newton who was a high fashion photographer up until his death last year at the age of 83. He crashed his car into a wall after suffering a heart attack but he had the most extraordinary career and had photographed such celebrities as Nicole Kidman, Mick Jagger, Courtney Love, Michael Hutchence, Liz Taylor and Julia Roberts. During his time he was considered the master of photographic provocation and took photographs for many high fashion magazines, including Vogue. Actually, when he crashed his car he was returning home from a 'Vogue' photo shoot of a girl in a gold bikini laying on a bed of nails. I think it's so amazing that if you love your career enough, even at the ripe old age of 83, you can still be professionaly the master of your game. I've always had an interest in photography, and especially magazine photography. Have a look at afew of the sites I found with some of his work on them.
